(Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause)

A life changing therapy that improves symptoms after 1 treatment.

Vulvovaginal atrophy refers to tissue changes of the vagina and vulva (the skin around the vaginal opening) that occur when a women loses her circulating estrogen. Most commonly this occurs when a women passes into menopause and also in women experiencing induced menopause from cancer treatment. Recently, this condition has been renamed Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). The symptoms of GSM include: vaginal dryness, vaginal burning, vaginal irritation, dysuria (painful urination) and dyspareunia (painful intercourse).

While these symptoms are experienced by as many as 50% of postmenopausal women, many women who experience these symptoms feel that it is just a normal part of the aging process and nothing can be done about it*. Thus, very few women seek out treatment or discuss their symptoms with their doctors. These issues affect a women’s quality of life both physically and psychologically. There is, however, a new treatment available for this very common disorder. Contact the The Komer Women’s Health Clinic for more information about our new laser treatment for this condition.
